Hello one and all! I'm writing this sat on a terrace in rural France and to reinforcethe jealousy - qits even more beautifulthat you're picturing. Getting here however...
The original plan was to fly from Stanstead to Tours (we are in Samour) but Ryanair were forced to divert this due to runway works. "Bull" I remember thinking. "What airport would shut its only runway in peak season!??" I don't think Tours is closed....
So i could either have my refund or fly to a airport and get a free coach. I hate coaches. So i bought a ticket with Air France for a flight from Heathrow (my local airport) to Paris CDG and thence to Tours. Well 12hours of travel later and I am here.
The airline (ignoring the three hours they added to the trip) were pretty good but it felt daft doing 2hours of checkin and security for a 30minute flight. I'm full of praise for the staff of the French rail network -SNCF. In red tabards on platforms and dotted by ticket machines and in booths they spoke pretty good english with a smile - and seemed not to hate me unlike most French people I have met. Ahh bien.
Time for a cuppa tea before we go shopping. Carreafour is France's Tesco but doesn't seem to have any real competition. Maybe its the sheer scale of France prevents our supermarkets appearing on thier motorway junctions.
Something feels very risky about being so remote, there is a comfort in having a 24hr Tesco and McDonalds within 5minutes.
